Potty Training Your Child

Potty Training- An Introduction

Potty training your child is one of those accomplishments that just about all children will learn, but only in their own time, when they are ready.

I can understand the anguish that parents go through when they want their child to learn this skill (which they will), but also, all parents need to understand that each child develops this in their own time.

Some may be fully trained by the time they are two, and others may only start when they are two and a half, or even later.

However, there are ways to help, and encourage your child, once they are ready.

Some Ideas to Help You Along the Potty Training Route

In some cases, when toddlers see the toilet being flushed at home, that can be enough to encourage them to ‘find out more’ about it.

In other cases, some toddlers realise that thwy may have to switch from their nice ‘super hero’ underwear to a traditional white platic nappy, if they soil their underwear.

Notice how gentle encouragement is being iontroduced here, to help the situation.  Your child will typicaly lerarn, but it is important to follwo different ideas with them, and see what they are atrtracted to. Then, work with that in mind.

I Would Still Like More Help…

That is absolutely OK. I can point you in the direction of a course on potty training, to train you as parents in the best methods to train your child.

They have been written by parents and medical people with experience, and any help can be a heaven sent gift.

I understand it can be difficult at times, so help is on the way.

I am quite concerned about the security of our children online, and felt it would be appropriate to update you on some methods that we, as parents can take, to prevent the threats.

More and more threats are becoming available on the internet, and it is our responsibility to help our kids remain protected.

I am the first person to hail the internet as a fantastic medium, for pleasure, income (I work online), and also as a research tool.

However, it can also pose threats and risks to kids, if they are not educated properly in its use, and we, as parents, are prepared to install extra security.

A very basic, and cheap alternative for a start, is to ensure that your computer with internet access is installed in a part of the house where you can keep a natural eye on your kids.

This costs nothing, and if your child must have a pc in their bedroom, ensure it is not able to be hooked to the internet.

However, with the PC Tattletale software, you are able to actually see each and every page that your child has seen, and surfed.

I understand that some people will be concerned about your child’s privacy, but I feel it is more important to ensure that your child’s safety comes first!

I have found that PC Tattle tale is an excellent package with all the benefits you need.

More information is available form the link on PC Tattletale, as well as clicking on the image.

Danger for Your Kids Online

The Dark Side of the Internet

I wanted to bring an important issue to the surface, particularly for parents with slightly older children, who are using the internet.

From the research I’ve done, it is definitely important to be aware of the importance of keeping an eye out on what your kids are doing online, as effectively, as seen in the video on this post, it is more important than ever to protect our kids online.

It does not matter if you live in an extremely well off suburb, or elsewhere, as the worst of the world can be brought to your kids.

It is very common fopr kids to be hoodwinked when they are chatting online, and they may think they are talking with a similar aged person, but who in effect, may mean your child harm.

It is also a very good idea to keep your computer in a ‘public’ part of your home, like the living room, to help keep an eye on what your kids are doing.

There is also software available that monitors everything your child does online.

I have included a reference to an eBook on the subject as well, as this is an important area to be knowledgeable about, when it comes to the safety of our children.

It is available from the Safety EBook Dark Side of the Internet.

I am well aware that some people will feel that this is an invasion of their privacy, but I would consider my child’s safety far more important online, than any other thing.

The Dark Side of the Internet

Children develop different behavioural patterns, as they grow older, but it is still natural for many parents to worry.

It has been found that as many as 60 of parents of 1 year olds will say they have concerns over the behaviour of their kids.

However, it should be noted that many stages of development will involve behaviour patterns, and it is only if they are prolonged, that more intervention may be necessary.

Itis, however, recognised, that early intervention is better if a more serious problem is suspected, so it can be beneficial to get assistance from your GP, or other medical professional.

What I am trying to say, is that you need to keep an eye on your kids, but not be overly concerned at every change, unless it is marked, and prolonged.

In the case of food intolerance, which is different to food allergies, it has been found that some foods cause behavioural problems, mainly, but not limited to, the chemical additives they may contain.

Food Intolerance

Care needs to be taken with their diet, to ensure minimal additives are used whenever possible.

If your child is slow to develop speech, or recognise aspects of behavious seen in other kids, it is important to be checked out, as this may indicate a mild form of autism.

However, please noter, you need medical advice on this.

I am just providing general guidance here.

Birth Choices- What Is Best?

This is a big question for many mothers to be, and understandably so.

However, it should be noted there are no cut and dry answers.

For example, it is understood that around 30% of births in Australia are by Caesarian section.

However, it should be noted that the age of the mother is taken into account as well.

The majority of good hospitals will also give you the choice, as it is important for you to remember- it is your body, and your birth!

For example, it might be safer for a mother in her late 30’s to have a Caeser, whuilst it would probably be better for a younger woman in her 20’s with a view to having many children, consider the vaginal option instead.

This is as scarring may cause difficulty in later Caesers, but they are still possible.

Again, these are issues that are best discussed with your doctor as well.

Further, of the Caesers that occur in Australia, around half of those are planned, the other half not.

Some parents want the exact knowledge of an exact date of arrival for a Caeser, and others are not as concerned.

Some Facts about Caesarians

  • It is possible to have a vaginal delivery after a Caesarian birth.

  • It is possible to have a SPINAL BLOCK or epidural, so you may be ‘awake’ for the procedure.

  • A Caeser cut is around 10 cm long.

  • You may breastfeed after a Caeser, and you would probably have a planned Caeser around 39 weeks.
