Breastfeeding and Enjoying It!  It is possible.

I know you have heard the horror stories, and the reasons why you may not be able to breast feed, but please know, you can breastfeed, and enjoy the experience. It is largely about having the right information, in order to vet started the right way, and reduce all the problems you have been gearing about.

Isn’t it funny, how many times you don’t hear the good news.

Well, I’m here to tell you that you can succeed, and do so very well.

What are the Benefits of Breastfeeding?

Effectively, each helping of breast milk provides

·        The equivalent of a vaccination to your child, in as much as all your antibodies are passed onto your baby, so their immune system is stronger when they are breast fed.

·        It has been found that incident of diabetes have been reduced amongst those that are breast fed.

·        Studies have shown that the IQ of babies breastfed is typically a little higher than those who are not.

·        Breast feeding provides an ideal bonding experience for both mother and child, and this can be very rewarding for both of you.

·        Breast feeding can delay the onset of the menstrual cycle, giving you a break from the monthly pain, and discomfort of periods.

·        There are numerous further advantages, but I think you get the idea.

If you have had difficulty breast feeding before, it is worth giving breast feeding another chance. I came across an excellent book on the subject of breast feeding by Pinky McKay, who is a specialist lactation consultant in Australia.

It really is worth trying again, if you have had a negative experience in the past, as for those that succeed, it is a wonderful experience.

You deserve to experience it too.

I have included more information on breastfeeding on the New Mums Website under Breastfeeding too.

Car Seats, and Safety Harnesses for Your baby- The Knowledge You need now!

I gave much thought to this video you see below, before putting it on this website, and I think it is important you see it, as it is vital that this material knowledge is available to every parent.

Your children are precious, and deserve the best when it comes to safety.

Please do not just assume that any old car seat will do, or that they are all the same.

They are not.

I have also included a link to the Car Seat Section of the New Mums Info website, which is important for you to see, and appreciate the value of the correct installation of car seats.

Car seats need to be in great condition to begin with, and well fitted to your car.

Any old installation will not just do, as the story in the attached video shows.

I urge you to take safety and security seriously, as I have heard and know that this is an area that all loving parents will attend to.

A little forethought, and care now will save much heartache later.

A change table is a fairly important part of a baby’s room furniture, as it is easier for the you to change your baby, while they’re at a suitable height for you, but they too, need to be safe, and secure.

In addition, you want to look for certain specific issues with your baby’s change table, to ensure thay you, your baby, and any other children nearby are safe too.

In addition to the basics, it can help to have all the necessary items near by, like nappies, creams, and the like, as it is then better organised for you.

What to Look for in a Table?

·        To begin with, you are looking for

·        Roll off protection,. Like raised sides or similar. Babies tend to move around a lot, and you want to protect your baby from a fall, or worse.

·        The changing surface should be easy to clean any mess from, in the event of an accident.

·        You may want to consider a restraining belt, but please note that there is n substitute for care and attention to your child.

·        If the table is a portable, folding style, ensure that your fingers and those of baby are not likely to get caught. Some designs are very good, whilst others are very suspect, at best.

Price is not necessarily an indicator, so you may want to shop around, and check that you find something suitable for you and your baby.

A cheaper, but useable alternative is a towel on the base of your bed, but this may be a little low for you.

Some of you, the handy types, may want to see the following video on making your own tables. Please check theat you follow as many safety guidelines as possible.

Pool Safety for Your Children

Pool Fencing, For your Child’s Safety

Pool fencing is a subject that deserves mention, as there are too many accidents, some leading to death, by drowning, and I would very much like to contribute, even in a small way, to reduce these incidents.

One way is through awareness, that then leads through to action.

If you have a pool, no matter how small it may be, you need a fence, simple as that.

I am aware that some people have pools installed in homes, prior to special laws coming into affect, so they may be exempt from fence inspections and the liked, depending on the area you live.

No matter how you look at it, law or no law, with or without inspections, a good quality fence will save your child’s life.

Some people think that a very shallow ‘baby poo’ will be safe, but a child can drown in a pool with only one centimetre of water.

Hence, there are some basic rules to follow.

·        Ensure you always have a good quality fence around your pool.

·        Ensure you always supervise your children in the pool.  Never leave them alone, even for a second.

If the phone rings, either leave it, or take your child out the pool first!

·        It is also important to ensure that you protect your children from sun damage, wither with good quality sunscreen or high SPF (Sun protection factor clothing.

I have included a video about pool fencing for your information.

I am in no way, endorsing the company mentioned, but felt the ideas they present explain the point well.
